  • Karun's so great (Damon's good too), lots of gems here. "Williams needs to do what McLaren did", yes. "Nico Hulkenberg would've been good for Haas...to replace Grosjean", yes. It is sad, it does look like the peak of Nico Hulkenberg's career was cut off by the weight issue that happened to run over his peak performing years. He was supposedly in the running for the Ferrari seat in 2012, and imagine how different F1 history might've been if he got that? As for refueling, if you actually go back and watch old F1 races with refueling, they're mostly not that great...

  • Volatile character??? You probably don't know anything about his character. If one just goes by the things he bluntly expresses one must not forget that english is not his native tongue. And being Dutch is not helping in the field of diplomacy because we Duchies think of ourselves as being straightforward and honest while others think we are very rude and shockingly impolite. As a dutchman I and some of my fellow countryman often get the impression that French and English drivers are a bit slimy or walking around the bush, a bit to well raised, a bit to artificial, to ideal son in law typish.

• @Mike Spearwood You are delusional. I never said anything about Max's passing. I said there was a rule, and it was dropped, and you're defending the dropped rule. There was never any threat of a demolition derby, in fact, the racing was getting stale. (Edit) And Ferraris don't need Max to sabotage their cars.

      brippiebrippie10 महीने पहले
    • @brippie You are dimwitted! Nobody cared about Verstappen passing them, it was his attitude towards preventing cars overtaking his car, preferring to sabotage cars rather than let them pass: THAT was the issue with Max Verstappen's driving!

      Mike SpearwoodMike Spearwood10 महीने पहले
    • @Mike Spearwood You're a naive hater. If this is the case and it was fair, then why was it dropped? Because it impeded racing. I know we're quite used to having Ferraris ending up behind Max but back then it was a bit of a shock.

      brippiebrippie10 महीने पहले
    • @brippie You're a silly fanboy. The issue was his moving under braking was unfair, as he was aiming to sabotage others out of spite, rather than let other faster cars pass him fair and square. If everyone has that attitude, you basically end up with a demolition derby, and not a race!

      Mike SpearwoodMike Spearwood10 महीने पहले
    • @Mike Spearwood That's not why the Verstappen rule was initiated. But I understand your confusion, people are crying foul with every overtake he makes. And that's because he overtakes a lot of people.

  • Surely having got Damon and Karun down and set up all the seats and lighting then why restrict this to a paltry hour ? It was just getting up to a nice canter when Arron announced there were five minutes left before handing over to the audience. In this day and age it is so easy to get a question from each ticket buying member of the audience beforehand and then select the best handful . I think these unnecessary constrictions really made Arron flap . He’s not a natural when it comes to live situations and this situation made him not so good . I understand there were probably constraints placed on you by the broader event this podcast took place within but this could have been a brilliant and fascinating podcast.

  • The racing was NOT DULL during refueling. Refueling added another variable that made it exciting to watch races and allowed smaller teams to start higher up the grid which made the start of races far more unpredictable.

    • @RaptorV1USA Martin Brundle said it added an element of surprise that is sorely lacking now. Not sure where you get your information from "USA". Aren't you lost?

      Ciaron SmithCiaron Smith11 महीने पहले
    • @Ciaron Smith it is mostly true and you know it. Most every single respected F1 writer with direct experience of these years has said the same thing it became a mileage and pitstop management formula, and didnt provide great racing on a consistent basis. Also, how can driving to a fuel mileage formula be "Purer" its just like we've had in recent years where they are all driving to manage the tire life and "on" phase.... Vs actually racing each other & the track..

      RaptorV1USARaptorV1USA11 महीने पहले

      HouseyHousey11 महीने पहले
    • @Tj930 Misses the point I am making. No one outside of a handful of people can tell the difference between a 5 second lap difference at a race track. What they do notice is noise, action, how the cars act and look. My point is for spectacle lap time is irrelevant. CanAm was a great example of that, Group B another. Modern Rally cars are quicker than Group B over a stage, but Group B was more special.

      HouseyHousey11 महीने पहले
    • I understand the sentiment. But if we substitute the word "technology" for "lap time", would you still feel the same way? I mean, by your formula, we could get rid of all the aero and have barely any power 😉 Turn it into a running race, cycle, or horse race? Even touring cars is quite boring these days - lots of 'who cares?' overtaking and artifice with the structure of the championship. F1 is meant to be the highest level. Quick cars help reinforce that message.

Since that Ferrari understood they are making wrong car that slower in corners and complicated to drive. Since that Ferrari always coming to any racing track with new up grade parts. It became acceptable to be in total control of your and ram your opponent off the track to take the win but if you have no control and you don't hit anything you get a penalty. Someone is going to get hurt soon with these types of insane decisions. One of it's multiple Champions has profen he was a fraud and not that good a driver, one of the biggest teams did it's best to screw the future of the team over as much as they could ,the cars and engines are awful for racing and the whole show was a big disappointment. Some of the midfield battles at times were not bad and my Williams hit an all time low. I have been watching the WEC GTE cars since the summer and it is way more entertaining. I really can not see me forking out so much money for pay TV to watch another season of crap. The only real surprise was Ferrari's shock victory at Singapore, I never saw that coming
