  • It may be unpopular to say this, but Kimi just doesn't seem particularly bright, even compared to most of his peers. It's very tough to dislike him, but hearing him talk and describe how he goes about life shows (in my opinion) a person who doesn't really think analytically about much. He's undoubtedly got a rare talent, but part of me thinks that his talent paired with more intense passion/dedication would have given him much much better results. He's gotten lucky that his talent has kept him competitive for this long, but I'm not sure that someone who lucked out on talent deserves much admiration. Yeah, it's somewhat funny seeing him deal with media, but it's apparent to me that it's more than just a display of indifference/chill, but also evidence that he's just kind of a lazy thinker. Hearing him in this podcast has only strengthened my opinion that this is the case. I still like the dude, but I think his ardent fans are just refusing to see him as the dim bulb that he proves to be whenever given a chance to speak.

    Stupid FlandersStupid Flanders29 दिन पहले
    • @Natasha Perhaps his autobiography (which I haven't read) reveals insights which we don't get from simply hearing him speak, but (1) I'm actually quite skeptical he took the initiative to write it himself and (2) "above average" is a fairly low bar for intelligence. Plus, people who score well on some IQ test can be practically unremarkable/uninteresting. Anyway, the foreign language piece is a bad excuse; he's been in F1 for longer than some current non-English F1 drivers have been alive and has been surrounded by the English language during that time; if that's still a barrier for him expressing his thoughts, then it's only further evidence that he's not that bright, or else he would've learned English by now. Current F1 drivers with much stronger accents than him (Sainz, Giovanazzi, Kvyat) manage to sound like clearer thinkers when speaking to media. Bad English, shyness, and sensitive vocal chords can help explain why he's hesitant to say much. But it doesn't explain why, when he does choose to talk, he has almost nothing interesting to say. He seems unable to thoughtfully contemplate hypothetical scenarios or give any insightful explanations for why things are the way they are. For a long time, I accepted that he's short in his answers because he doesn't want to talk to media (for whatever reason; why be so hostile if you have to do it as part of your job?). But listening to this podcast (where he seems open with the host) actually strengthens my impression that he just doesn't have almost anything interesting to say, because there's not much to Kimi behind his talent as a driver (and being a decent dude, I guess).

      Stupid FlandersStupid Flanders26 दिन पहले
    • Or it's a combination of the fact that he's speaking a foreign language, has damaged vocal chords, doesn't enjoy speaking to media and is actually quite a shy guy? Yes, he has admitted in the past that he can be quite lazy but that doesn't equate to being a "lazy thinker". In his autobiography, he mentions that he was sent to a therapist as a child, who confirmed that he actually had above average intelligence and that was likely the reason he did not speak very much.

  • There's not much about his career at McLaren thought there works have been more emphasis on that time during re fueling and the tire war when he was arguably the fastest driver in the world only to be let down by the McLaren Mercedes-Benz engines, suspension failures, tyre explosions, hydraulic failures, heatshield failures. Definitely could have won 2x more championship

  • 50 minutes of Kimi’s talking is gold, thanks! He’s got a very basic level of English so the interviewer would do better if he spoke a more direct, simple English with short questions and not all the twists and turns that the English love to do and leave things unsaid. I mean things like “who wears the trousers?” (which he quickly corrected) and “which team were you the happiest?” are beyond Kimi’s level. Not that he’s stupid, but he just doesn’t have that level of language. I think Kimi would have talked more if he completely understood the questions.
