  • The V8 cars still hold up well regarding performance despite the new cars being faster. The V8s were 100kg lighter and they had amazing grip through low and medium speed corners even with the narrower tires, the extra 100kg on the V6 cars really shows

    McLarenBMWMcLarenBMWसाल पहले
    • @Guardian of the Blind The 2004 cars were slower than post-2017 era cars for 2 or 3 reasons. 1. Tyres. Current cars get slick tyres, on top of being much wider. Grooved tyres are never going to stick to the ground as good as slicks no matter how good they are. This alone probably robs almost 2 seconds on the 2004 cars alone. 2. DRS. Current cars have a lot more downforce than the V10s but on the straights they would lose a ton of time to them, probably even more than 1 second in some tracks. DRS however eliminates that since it gives the current cars even less drag and downforce than the 2004 cars. 3. Qualifying format. Back in 2004-2005, the drivers had to qualify with a considerable amount of fuel because they had to start the race with that amount of fuel. That's easily 30 liters of fuel, in some cases even more. So the 100kg weight advantage that the 2004 cars have over the 2017+ era cars is negated quite a bit here, which is why again, qualifying times in 2004-2005 do not represent the true speed of those cars, as in some cases the FASTEST LAP IN THE RACE was faster than the qualifying lap. Do this: Give 2004 F1 era cars slick tyres, with the same width/size they had. Which is something that is easily achievable for any tyre supplier to do. Make the 2017+ era F1 cars NOT USE DRS. Make the 2004 F1 era cars do a qualifying lap with minimal fuel needed just like the 2017+ era F1 cars. And you will see that the V10s were not much slower. Their aerodynamics were way ahead of their time, their power was upwards of 900hp on cars that weighted just over 600kg. The cars had so much power on those two wheels that driving them without TC was impossible during a full race even for the best drivers in the world. Current cars can easily control 1000hp because they have 100kg more and a lot more grip and downforce to hold them on the ground. Truly an era of cars that the pilots who drove all, the V10s, V8s and V6s still get all misty eyed on the V10s because they were simply amazing machines and with the regulations at the time, they could drive it to their absolute limit in the race, which is why the races of 2004 lasted less time than the current races of the current era of F1 cars because the engines have to lost a lot of races. But they DO perform their full power in Q3 of qualifying, no excuse for holding back there. Australia 2019 qualifying is "only" 4 seconds faster than 2004 qualifying times. Slick tyres, NO DRS and low amounts of fuel would easily cover 3 seconds alone. And in Spa and Monza the 2004 cars are definitely faster in equal circumstances.

      Vitor FerreiraVitor Ferreira3 महीने पहले
    • @Guardian of the Blind but that speed(both on straight and corner) and smaller sound made F1 gp less fun and boring, I think😄

      윤현석윤현석6 महीने पहले
    • the v6 hybrids have much more consistent torque and that's where they can gain massive lap times. The v6 turbo hybrids are now at pretty much 1000hp. that's almost 250hp more, than these v8s. that's way more power and laptime gain, than you lose with a 100kg more weight. they also need that weight a bit to get the power down. there are a few videos on youtube with a v6 (sim of course) in a f2004 and it was almost impossible to get the power down.

  • At top revs it was struggling to hit 300km/hr This was the start of the decline Slow very slow ugly cars Watched f1 in 1991. Cars were faster..tracks were more flowing no hairpin or slow corners Cars had no halo or as much safety as now but today's cars are slower Drivers nowadays have no personality or character. Seriously I go faster in my opel Astra to work everyday flat out. F1 is in dire straits as safety and restrictions have racing really boring and actually pointless Drivers should have to rotate cars and no driver should have advantage just because he has better car.

In 2015, it was Vettel who was magnificent, and definitely the best driver on the grid at the time without any doubt. His 2014 year was just him failing to adapt to the new car after driving a piece of art Red Bull with diffusers, and also putting more attention on Ferrari and his new born kid and not totally focusing on F1.

  • What a slow car the Red Bull was on the straights and how it compensated everything with the downforce to get the pole.

    xBaphometHxxBaphometHx4 साल पहले
    • @Leonardo Cilento Not really... Ask Webber. Vettel simply had full confidence on the car and it also helped him that he literally pushed the car over the limits so many times during practices. Vettel in that era spun in a lot of practices, but on qualifying and race day, he would deliver with perfect driving. The car was beatable... The Red Bull never got a 1-2 in the championship standings, and Webber up until he was beaten by Vettel, was considered one of the best drivers in the grid, with good reason, as he beat his teammates pretty much 8 out of 10 times before and he put midfield/inferior cars in positions they weren't meant to be. Vettel and RB7 & RB9 were such a good combo that they did records that even Lewis is yet to beat despite having far superior machinery in 2014/2015/2016/2017/2019 and now 2020. 13 wins in a season / 9 wins in a row / 15 poles in a season. Which is why I can never put Lewis above Vettel. Just that he has had more luck with the cars than him. Both are still greats and in the end people will only look at the numbers.

    • @toni m. turbo hybrid era will last until 2025 If I recall correctly. Why that year? Because that's when the new engine regs will come into play.

    • @Cory Whiteley The Red Bull was the slowest car on the straights, at some tracks the Maximum the Red Bull could go was 310 kph while the 2nd slowest was in the 320s kph... The car however had amazing grip and was perfect for Vettel's driving style because of how agressive he is at exiting corners while the downforce sticks the rear-end to the ground. Not just anyone could drive the Red Bull to the extent Vettel did. Webber was an amazing driver who in previous years with absolute shit cars got a couple of podiums and beat his teammates about 80% of the time in qualifying and races, which included Rosberg and Coulthard at the time, and yet he was no match for Vettel from 2011 until 2013 when rear diffusers were the main thing in the car. He was able to compete with him in 2009 and 2010 though.

    • Sonny Lindfield He has said a couple of times over the years he likes the track but he isn’t particularly great on the ring. He once told that Mark (former teammate) was actually better on it.
