  • I think in the 70s Gilles Villenueve won a race in Canada in october or something similar and during the podium celebration it started to snow... Maybe the story was not entirely true, but hey, would have made the list.

  • CART/Indycar occasionally contends with sand at Laguna Seca. Back in 2000, CART made the ludicrous decision to move the race at Nazareth (Pennsylvania) to March instead of its usual summer spot on the calendar, making space for another race. It snowed, forcing them to reschedule until the end of May, after the Indy 500.

  • As an Australian, I want to mention the 1992 Tooheys 1000 at Bathurst. Late in the race, a severe rain storm hit the area, turning the already risky track into a genuinely dangerous track. Several cars crashed, including the race leader. The race was declared, and under the red flag, yet another crashed when they slid off the track like he was on ball bearings. Australian Touring Car legend Mark Skaife says it was one the most dangerous conditions ever. Skaife himself was declared the winner that day, despite his car crashing out during the storm

  • What about Canada 1969 when a thick lake effect fog descended over mosport on race day and they had to send jackie stewart out on a set of recon laps to see if it was safe to race then after about an hour the race started even though the fog had actually gotten worse.

  • I think Malaysia 2001 with the monsoon rain right after the start should be mentioned. Also don't forget about Nürburgring '99, where Johnny Herbert made incredibely clever decisions to take his final victory. Belgium '98 was also very strange but it was rather caused by the incidents happening in the race rather than the wheather. You remember? The red flag after a start crash with a douzend or so cars involved, Schumacher and Coulthards accident and a P1/P2 for Jordan?

  • Sand tires would probably be harder inter/wets as you'd want the sand off the track but don't have the luxury of cooling given by the water.

  • Sand tyres have little shovels attached all around in order to dig into the sand and get some grip out of the loose material. (Its actually a thing in RC cars)
